PUB CONVERSION: Plans for Theatre Bar to become flats

PUB CONVERSION: Plans for Theatre Bar to become flats

A former Stafford town centre pub could be converted into flats for vulnerable young adults.

Planning permission was granted last year to transform the Theatre Bar in Eastgate Street into 10 flats.

Now a fresh application has been put forward to create 15 one bedroom apartments.

A statement submitted to Stafford Borough Council  as part of the application said: “After being unviable as a public house for some time, permission was granted for the conversion and extension of the public house into 10 flats.

This planning permission has not been fully implemented, however work was commenced by the previous owner of the building.

Our client is now seeking to convert the building to 15 one bed apartments for young adults, with a staff presence on site to provide supported living.

The application comprises the conversion and extension of the building to provide supervised accommodation which will be managed by a housing association.

All of the apartments will be rented on a social basis. The building itself will be owned by the developer and will be leased in the medium to long term to, and managed by, a housing association with an established track record in the provision of assisted living.

“As such, all of the units provided within the development will be rented at a rate which will be accessible to the vulnerable adults (who) will occupy the building.”
