A teenager who stabbed a schoolboy in the chest in an unprovoked Wolverhampton attack has been locked up.

The 15-year-old boy - who had links to a city gang - knifed his victim in Tudor Road, Heath Town, on 27 November last year.

The youth fled as the injured 16-year-old was taken to hospital with a chest wound after the 3.15pm attack. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.

We were able to quickly identify the suspect and he was arrested less than 24 hours later and charged with wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

The boy - who legally can’t be named due to his age - admitted the offences and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday to three years and five months at a young offender’s institution.

Detective Sergeant Craig Newey , from force CID, said: "There is no place for such violence. There was no clear motive for this attack and it’s just fortunate the victim didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries.

"We know the 15-year-old had links to a city gang and having the wrong influences can lead to decisions you’ll regret forever. This boy has a criminal record and has now rightly lost his freedom."
