A DOG’S TRUST: Dog trainer is stepping up efforts to teach people about dog behaviour following some high-profile incidents

Watch Live

If you're a dog lover then you know what wonderful companions they are. However, there have been a few high profile cases of dog attacks in recent weeks. Last weekend, a 17-month-old boy was bitten on the leg by a dog in a park in Merseyside. It came after a 25-year-old woman died in Birmingham after an attack by a dog she had rescued.

Debby Lucken, a dog trainer and behaviourist, is the founder of Kids Around Dogs (KAD) which aims to help families overcome the hidden issues of adopting a dog such as overconfident children leaving pets stressed and anxious or youngsters who were petrified of animals. She's building a network of trainers across the country with twenty already signed up.

Debby said many families who took on a dog were unaware of the issues that could arise - from overconfident children leaving pets stressed and anxious to youngsters who were petrified of animals. Either situation could lead to the child being at risk of being bitten or attacked.

Debby's Facebook page - Kids Around Dogs - was launched last year specifically to offer help in this area.
