NEWS ROUNDUP: Sandwell infection rate now below 300 & 47 new officers to deal with rise in domestic abuse
Tuesday's update of the coronavirus case rates in each area shows that whilst Sandwell remains the third worst place for infections in the country, the rate is now below three hundred per a hundred thousand people. Walsall also remains in the top ten.
A Black Country cannabis farmer has been sent to jail. Thirty two year old Tahir Ndreu was sentenced to 26 months in jail at Birmingham Crown Court after being found guilty of working as a gardener for a drugs operation in North Street, Smethwick. Police arrested him at the premises in July 2020 where they found a hundred and eighteen plants.
Finally, West Midlands Police are bringing in 47 extra officers to deal with the rise in domestic violence. Forty constables and seven sergeants will join the force's public protection unit as they look to respond to a surge in cases across the region.
