CITIZENS ADVICE: Pandemic brings huge increase in demand
During the pandemic Citizens Advice centres across the West Midlands have moved to mobile working. Making sure that people still have access to vital advice.
The Sandwell and Walsall organisations have recently merged. Their latest initiative is Cassie a mobile van which travels across their region offering face to face advice often to vulnerable clients.
Government figures released this Tuesday have revealed that the number of people making a universal credit claim has doubled since the start of the pandemic. the increase in claimants from three million to six million people has seen a large increase in the numbers of people seeking advice.
The Sandwell and Walsall Citizens advice team have inevitably seen a huge increase in demand as people seek advice on subjects including social security, housing and consumer issues.
Staff say they are proud to serve their community particularly those who struggle to access government services such as those for whom English is not their first language.
