COVID INFECTION RATE CONCERNS: 66 West Midlands districts seeing ‘dangerously high’ rates

Coronavirus infection rates continue to fall across the West Midlands but now local leaders are continuing their drive to get every member of the public vaccinated.

Across the West Midlands overall coronavirus infection rates are falling. However there are sixty-six local neighbourhoods where case rates are above 200 cases per 100,000 people.

Birmingham Summerfield  is the district of the highest concern, there the coronavirus infection rate in the week until February the twenty first was  955.8 cases per 100,000 – Whilst Ocker Hill, West Bromwich East, Walkers Heath and Amblecoat all exceeded 400 cases per 100,000. Local leaders have raised concern that with perhaps vaccine confidence more people are starting to take risks.

Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street recently hosted a vaccination roundtable- bringing together local experts for an update on the latest coronavirus situation in our region.  There was praise on the effectiveness of the vaccine roll-out together with advice on protection, particularly from new strains of the virus.
