LOCAL UPDATE: Birmingham 2022 aims to be carbon neutral & Three new surrender bins for weapons
Organisers of Birmingham 2022 have revealed plans to be carbon neutral.
With 500 days to go until the start of Birmingham 2022, organisers have unveiled plans to deliver the first ever carbon-neutral Commonwealth Games. A partnership with Severn Trent will see 2022 acres of forest created as well as 72 tennis-court-sized mini forests.
Next, West Midlands Police is provide three new weapon surrender bins for people to dispose of knives, blades and sharp objects. Two are already open in Belchers Lane in Bordesley Green and outside the Cornbow Shopping Centre. A third will be placed in Coventry by the end of the month.
Finally, Edgbaston stadium is to be used as an NHS covid vaccination centre. Opening on the fifteenth of March, the Exhibition Hall will be operated wholly by the NHS with the treatments administered to those who have been contacted direct and have subsequently booked an appointment.
