Coronavirus case rates rise in 7 parts of the West Midlands & Fire crews called to huge blaze in Aston.
Thursday’s update of coronavirus case rates show a rise in seven parts of the West Midlands. Solihull is one of the biggest risers with 86 cases per a hundred thousand people compared to just 54 a week ago, whilst a rise in Redditch means it is the fourth worst place in the country for coronavirus infections.
Next, a number of crews from West Midlands fire service had to tackle a fire in Aston on Friday. At one point, eleven appliances were being used to fight the blaze at Taroni's scrapyard on Cheston Road.
Finally, a man has been sentenced to life in prison at Birmingham Crown Court after being found guilty of murder. 50 year-old Ameen Thabet of West Park Road in Smethwick strangled 47 year-old Najeeba Al-Ariqy at her home in Aston in March last year before attempting to stage the scene as a burglary to try and fool the police.
