HOTEL CELEBRATION: Free meals for vulnerable families

Birmingham City Council and Switch Hospitality Management (SWHM) held a celebratory event to mark the 10,000 lunch given to vulnerable families who are staying in properties in the SWHM portfolio.

Around 80 families are now accommodated in properties run by SWHM helping Birmingham City Council with its temporary accommodation pressures, particularly during the pandemic.

The 10,000 lunch was handed out by Councillor Sharon Thompson whose portfolio includes housing and the Managing Director of Switch Hospitality Management, John Angus.

Councillor Thompson said ‘The families placed in the SWHM properties receive a cooked breakfast every morning, access to all hotel services, guaranteed high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping and access to Wi-Fi. SWHM as part of their commitment to the agreement has also provided the families with free lunches and I would like to thank them for their generosity in doing this. SWHM have gone above and beyond in their commitment to vulnerable families.’

John Angus said ‘When we started to work with BCC last year, we were determined to drive the standards that Vulnerable Families receive in the city. If our hotels can provide great service so can every other hotel! The team at Switch decided to make their own impact on food poverty by providing free meals for all children staying in our hotels, with the support of our suppliers we serve an average 300 lunches each week and passing the 10,000 meal mark, has been a fantastic achievement. I am very proud of all of the team at Switch who really are making a difference to so many families, when they need it most”.
