WELCOME BACK: Broadcaster Ed James takes a tour of Westside ahead of the grand re-opening on 12 April

Ed James best known as Heart West Midlands drivetime presenter takes a tour of some of the venues in Westside as they prepare to welcome back customers on April the 12th.

The area which is managed by the Westside BID (Business Improvement district) includes the golden mile of Broad Street, the Midlands most popular entertainment district. The area which has undergone a massive transformation recently is also home to Brindleyplace, the Cube, The Library of Birmingham, Utilita Arena Birmingham and the International Conference Centre.

Many of the restaurants and stores in the district will be re-opening on April the 12th. Bars and restaurants with outdoor areas together with many retailers have been readying for customers as lockdown measures are eased.

Safety is the number one priority with measures in place, such as perspex screens and hand sanitiser stations, to ensure guests can focus on having a great time.

Later this year the Midland Metro tram system will be extended along the length of Broad Street making travel to the area easier. The street has also been given a complete refurbishment with new wider pavements and new lighting with the intention of introducing a continental style cafe culture.

Mike Olley, General Manager of Westside BID Said:

‘I’m encouraged by the positivity shown by national and local leaders in allowing us to open as soon as possible with a light regulatory framework but knowing that it is as safe as houses.

We are proud to offer the warmest welcome back to the tens-of-thousands of Westside customers who come to enjoy themselves’
