INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL: PM says he’s “not given up”, but is 17th May likely to become a reality?

A few days ago we’d swapped by scarf for a pair of shorts, but it seems we’re back to the chilly weather - but if you’re in the mood for something warmer it might not be too long.

Could we be jetting off this summer? As 17th May date in the roadmap looms, the date set for international travel to resume - what’d the feeling from those in the industry? We hear from Kelly Cookes of the Advanatge Travel Partnership.

Under the news plans, destinations would be classed as green, amber or red based on their rates of covid infections and how much of the country has been vaccinated.

No isolation would be required when returning to the UK from green countries, but pre-departure and post-arrival tests would be required, potentially costing up to £200 each.

Aviation chiefs have called for faster, cheaper testing to be worked on, the key - they say - to unlocking international travel. Ditching the slower, more expensive PCR tests for faster, cheaper lateral flows...

It’s likely that the 17th May could bear fruit - but there’s still a concern for many in the sector that they may once again be having to fight through the next few months.
