OVERSHADOWED: Leeds and Liverpool draw amidst Super League fury

A 1-1 draw between Leeds United and Liverpool was an afterthought with the news of the Super League breaking the day prior.

Liverpool are one of the teams who have agreed to form the new breakaway league in retaliation to UEFA's proposed Champions League changes.

The game itself was overshadowed by this news with all players and managers being quizzed before and after the match.

Jürgen Klopp and James Milner both expressed their disapproval of the announcement despite their club signing up.

Leeds wore t-shirts in the warm-up which displayed the Champions League logo and the words "EARN IT" on the front.

On the reverse, it said, "Football is for the fans".

A place flew over Elland Road ahead of kick-off with the message "Say No To Super League" in tow.

Liverpool miss the chance to climb into the top four - whatever that is worth now

Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead in a first half they dominated.

Diogo Jota's pass found Trent Alexander Arnold marauding forward as he usually does.

He slipped the ball into Mane who gave the Reds a deserved lead.

Liverpool had plenty of other chances in the first half but failed to beat Ilan Meslier in the Leeds goal.

However, Leeds were on top in the second half and drew level through Diego Llorente's first-ever goal for the club.

A corner whipped in by Jack Harrison was met by Llorente after Alex Oxlade Chamberlain failed to challenge for the ball.

Liverpool miss out on climbing into the top four after dropping two points. Although, it may not mean much.

The Super League will be the European competition they play in next season as it stands.

Unless the protests force a U-turn of seismic proportions.
