BUDDY BAG FOUNDATION: OBE for founder Karen Williams
Congratulations are in order for Karen Wiliams who received an OBE on the 31st December 2020 for her work with the Buddy Bag Foundation. She is 'absolutely humbled and honoured' to receive the award, and looks forward to hopefully receiving the award at Buckingham Palace.
Karen is the founder of the Foundation which provide a bag of essentials for children who arrive in emergency care. To date, over 31,000 buddy bags have helped children when they need it most.
The award is a recognition and acknowledgement of all the hard work that the team and all the volunteers involved have put in to the foundation over the last five years.
Like many, The Buddy Bag Foundation has faced a few hurdles since the pandemic began, affecting their ability to put the bags together.
Ian Hazel funeral services in Sutton Coldfield kindly donated their space to the foundation so that they could get back to doing their important work - facilitating the packing of 5000 bags during covid.
They are currently appealing to crafters who are looking for a new project or purpose that they can get involved in. The hope is to have drawstring bags that can hold the basic toiletries that they need to put into the Buddy Bag.
