HOLIDAYS BACK ON: As popular destinations moved to green list from Wednesday
An international travel announcement from the transport secretary - one that we’d all been expecting in recent days. If you’re after a holiday to the likes of Malta, the Balearic Islands and parts of the Caribbean, then quarantine rules will be relaxed from Wednesday. Here’s what the PM had to say just hours before that statement came.
Spain's Balearic islands, Malta, Madeira, and some islands in the Caribbean - including the likes of Barbados - have been added to England's travel green list. Well the announcement came from Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, with his department of transport also outlining destinations - aside from Malta - would all also be added to the government’s green watch list.
The news follows Cabin crew, pilots and travel agents all calling on the Government to relax the rules around international travel and provide financial support for a sector facing “chaos”.
Hundreds of people employed in the travel industry joined a day of action organised by industry body Abta outside Parliament in Westminster, Holyrood in Edinburgh and Stormont, in Belfast.
