“GET THE JAB”: Millions more eligible for vaccine as over 34s invited for their jab
People aged 34 and 35 are now being invited to get their coronavirus vaccine as the push to encourage more young people to get the jab continues.
Millions more people are now eligible for the coronavirus vaccine as the rollout continues. You will receive a notification letting you know when you can book in to get yours, with central and local governments encouraging everyone who is eligible to take up the jab.
National NHS Medical Director Professor Stephen Powis has said “the success of the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination programme, the biggest in history, is not by accident but down to careful planning and precision by NHS staff who have now delivered 48.5 million doses across England in less than six months.
“Getting the vaccine is the single most important step we can take to protect ourselves, our families and our communities against Covid 19, so when you’re called forward, book your appointment and join the tens of millions who have already been jabbed.”
Health services across the UK have now administered 57.8 million vaccines, including 36.9 million people with their first dose and 20.8 million with both doses. That’s around 7 in 10 UK adults who have received at least one dose.
Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock has said “vaccines are turning the tide against this pandemic and I’m incredibly proud the UK has one of the highest uptake rates in the world, with 90% of people saying that they have had or will have the jab.
“Strong evidence shows the vaccines protect you and your loved ones from serious illness and they also reduce transmission, which is why we’ve introduced additional surge measures in the areas with rising cases of the variant first identified in India.
“Thank you to everybody who has come forward so far – we can beat this virus together if we all play our part and get the jab as soon as we’re eligible.”
