NATIONAL NEWS ROUNDUP: Covid booster jabs for over-50s & third wave this summer “unlikely”
A third coronavirus jab is to be offered to everyone over 50 in the autumn in an attempt to eradicate the threat of covid entirely by Christmas.
The Times has reported that trials of two options are underway - being overseen by Chris Whitty, with suggestions boosters could become like annual flu jabs.
A third wave of coronavirus this summer is believed to be "very unlikely" according to SAGE scientists. Updated modelling is due to be released next week and is expected to show that the pressure on the NHS is unlikely to be overwhelming, even as covid restrictions continue to ease.
The countries set to appear on the UK’s "green safe" travel list will be unveiled soon, with Malta, Gibraltar and potentially Portugal okay to welcome back Brits from 17th May. Those wanting to travel to other countries though like Spain, France and Greece may need to wait until June at least.
