Funding for Sandwell’s future infrastructure projects and green spaces will be discussed by big-name council officers, MPs, and community champions next week – but Covid fears mean attendance will be restricted.

Sandwell Towns Superboard signs off each stage of a ‘Town Investment Plan’ and ‘Town Deal’.

It is responsible for ensuring that communities’ voices are involved in shaping design and decision making at each phase of development, and ensuring diversity in its engagement with local communities and businesses.

Items on the agenda include the Rowley Regis and Blackheath bus interchange, Smethwick Grove Lane regeneration, and the West Bromwich Town Hall quarter.

The towns fund, a pot of cash released by the now defunct ministry of housing, communities, and local government, was first unveiled in July 2019.

It will be used to support projects that will make a difference to the area, such as new green spaces, the creation of pop-up businesses spaces, pedestrianising streets to encourage walking or cycling and creating of new community hubs to support those living alone.

In addition, members of the Canal Rivers & Trust, Greets Green Community Enterprises, and Sandwell College, will be present to offer their take on whether they think Sandwell’s business plans go far enough in helping meet the regeneration needed to develop the borough.

The full timetable for the set of business cases are now available to view online, with further updates on future sessions expected closer to the start dates.

Residents can participate in a Microsoft Team meeting by emailing town_deal@sandwell.gov.uk. The meeting will start at 3:00pm.
