STOCK SHORTAGES: Shoppers urged not to panic buy
Greggs is the latest major chain to be hit with supply chain issues. The bakery retailer said it was seeing "temporary interruptions" in the supply of some ingredients. That announcement comes just a day after McDonalds pulled bottled drinks and milkshakes from its menu for the same reason.
Industry experts say that the ending of free flow immigration together with driver licence testing centres being closed have also added to the problem.
Nando's also recently closed 45 restaurants as a consequence of the disruption with KFC also saying some items will be missing. Iceland's Managing Director Richard Walker has also warned the UK faces 'big shortages' of lorry drivers, threatening Christmas deliveries, he says they have seen particular lines such as bread and soft drinks impacted by supply issues.
Another survey - this time suggesting that the supply chain issues are starting to impact on the economy The IHS Markit/CIPS Flash UK Composite PMI - an early indicator of economic health - gave a reading of 55.3 for August - the lowest since February and down from last month's 59.2.
