TACKLING MINDS: A charity is highlighting the benefits of fishing for people with mental health issues
A charity in Greater Manchester called Tackling Minds is highlighting the benefits of fishing to aid people with mental health issues, social deprivation, addiction and recovery,
Fishing can now be socially prescribed to people in Greater Manchester suffering from depression and anxiety. Social prescribing, sometimes known as community referral, is a means of enabling health professionals to refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services.
The fishing group behind the idea wants to spread the word of how beneficial fishing can be.
Tackling Minds first NHS collaboration is with the North Manchester General Hospital in which fishing was socially prescribed to people with mental health issues.
Dave hopes that fishing will be rolled out nationwide soon as part of the NHS' social prescribing initiative, where GPs, nurses and other health care professionals will be able to socially prescribe angling instead of antidepressants and anxiety medications.
