WALSALL SHOOTING: Police say they have increased patrols following a chaotic incident in Walsall

WALSALL SHOOTING: Police say they have increased patrols following a chaotic incident in Walsall

Walsall shooting update - increased police presence.

West Midlands Police have increased patrols following an incident in Walsall on 4 May where a number of people were injured and shots were fired.

A silver 4x4 crashed into a stationary black VW Golf at the junction of King Street and Cobden Street just after 1pm injuring one male occupant and a female pedestrian. Another occupant was unhurt.

Seconds later shots were fired from another vehicle. The occupants of the 4x4 then set their vehicle alight and made off. The fire spread to the Golf and a nearby house.

West Midlands Police have said “we recognise the impact incidents like this have on our communities and how frightening it can be, especially for those living nearby. We do however, believe it was a targeted attack.”

Four people have been arrested as detectives continue to establish what happened.

A man, aged 33, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and a man, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; they are in custody.

A man, aged 20, was arrested for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and a woman, aged 34, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. They are both being treated for their injuries in hospital and will be questioned at a later stage.

The man has a gunshot injury, he is in a serious but stable condition. The woman has injuries to her legs which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The force have recovered a VW Polo in nearby Tame Street, which they believe was involved - it will now be forensically examined. The search is still on for the occupants of this car.

Superintendent Clare Caddick, from Walsall police, said: “What happened yesterday in broad daylight is shocking and we recognise the concerns of our communities.

“This level of violence was unnecessary and reckless. We’ve increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance and welcome anyone who may be concerned to talk to local officers.

“Detectives are working diligently to determine exactly what happened and why, as their investigation continues at pace.

“We’ve had lots of witnesses come forward, I thank you for this − however I’d urge anyone who knows anything, but hasn’t yet got in touch, to do so as soon as you can."

The force said “anyone with information can contact us via live chat on our website or call 101, quoting log 2022 of 4 May.”
