PL TITLE RACE: Can Liverpool or Chelsea catch leaders Man City?
When Crystal Palace beat Manchester City at the Etihad in late October, the title race seemed to be a three-horse race between Pep Guardiola's side, Liverpool and Chelsea.
It was a shock defeat that opened up the landscape at the summit of the division. The defending champions had suffered their first league defeat of the season and the door was open.
Chelsea were the leaders, albeit just a point ahead of Liverpool, with City in-behind, leaving many to anticipate a title race like never before.
However, fast-forward to the new year and the picture at the top is very different.
Guardiola's side now boast a 10 point lead on Chelsea, with Liverpool a further point behind. So how did we get to this point?
For starters, City have won all of their 11 league games since that Palace defeat in late October.
They've beaten Manchester United, West Ham and Arsenal en route, and handed out drubbings to Leeds (7-0) and Newcastle (4-0). It would be fair to suggest that Palace defeat reignited City's form.
The same weekend that City lost to Palace, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Brighton at Anfield. It was lamented at the time as a missed opportunity. In hindsight, it may be the biggest chance they had to create a gap.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea have dropped points since then, including sharing the points in a 2-2 draw at the start of the New Year.
Thomas Tuchel's side have drawn with Burnley, Wolves and Everton in recent weeks, while Liverpool lost away at Leicester and dropped two points at Tottenham Hotspur.
All the while the City machine has continued its path towards dominance.
The decision seems to have been made that the Premier League title will be remaining firmly in the grasp of the side led by Guardiola.
Add into the equation that City have already travelled to Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Old Trafford and the Emirates, and it's hard to argue.
The title race is completely in their hands and they've already got one, if not one and a half, hands on the trophy.
