PREPARATION: All 26 England players train as Southgate has options to consider

All 26 England players train ahead of England against Scotland at Euro 2020, giving Gareth Southgate options to consider.

Southgate led training on the eve of England’s Euro 2020 clash against Scotland with all of his 26-man squad involved.

The Three Lions head to London later on Thursday afternoon ahead of their second Group D match at Wembley.

The full squad were training at St George’s Park with Harry Maguire included as he looks to prove his fitness and push for a start on Friday.

It is just the second time since the start of the European Championship that Southgate has been able to have all of his players out on the training field as one.

Ahead of training, the squad sang a rendition of Happy Birthday to Jordan Henderson.

The Liverpool captain, 31, will also be keen to start against Scotland having made his comeback from groin surgery in the Euros warm-up win over Romania.

As all 26 England players train, Southgate will now have to consider whether he makes any changes from the 1-0 victory over Croatia at Wembley in their opening Euro 2020 fixture. Maguire will be itching to play but John Stones and Tyrone Mings were a formidable partnership against the Croats. With Maguire lacking match fitness, it feels unlikely that he would come in.

The other possible changes Southgate may opt for is at full-back. He surprised fans by picking Trippier at left-back but against Scotland, some believe Southgate will pick one of his left-footed options in the form of Luke Shaw or Ben Chilwell. Trippier is clearly trusted by Southgate defensively so could he move to right-back and oust Kyle Walker in order to combat the threat of Scotland and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson?

There is also the question of Jack Grealish. The Aston Villa forward didn’t manage to get on the pitch against Croatia despite consecutive man-of-the-match performances in the warm-up games. If he does play, he is likely to come in for Mason Mount as the attacking midfielder rather than a winger.

Southgate certainly has lots to choose from ahead of England v Scotland.
